Details

I'm glad to say that a new track has been posted on our myspace site! "Details" is a new tune that was taken from our very first show in the new line-up--3.15.06 at Empire here in RVA. Overall it went pretty good. There are some things that could be tighter, but I wanted to put something new up just to at least give a hint at how different the music is from the old s&p stuff.

Bio

standards and practices

Scott Burton and Shareef Taher are no strangers to hard work. For the past 3 years, the two have managed to play in many different musical settings, everything from jazz and rock, to R & B and folk. Together they have a special musical chemistry that immediately commands attention. Combining elements of free improvisation with noise, math rock, and swing, the two have quickly managed to develop a unique musical identity that goes beyond any category. Each time they take the bandstand, one can expect a different experience, as Scott and Shareef guide the audience through their originals and inspired sets of free improvisation with style and grace.

Standards & Practices has played in and around the Richmond area, and opened for the Joel Harrison band (featuring Dave Binney, Allison Miller, and Stephan Crump).

Scott Burton(guitar) has performed with Skip Gailes, Mike Ess, and Brian Jones. He also just recently participated (along with Ty Braxton and Jessica Pavone) in recording and performing Glenn Branca's "Hallucination City Symphony #13 for 100 guitars" for Cantaloupe Records. He's also opened for the Chairmen of the Board!

Shareef Taher(drums) has shared the stage with many world-renown artists such as Michael Formenek, Dave Burrell, Ray Anderson, Brian Lynch, Rene' Marie, and Ingrid Jensen. He has performed professionally and recorded in all styles of music including classical, jazz, rock, blues, gospel, dixieland, salsa and brazilian music. Shareef is a junior at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, working towards a degree in jazz performance.
